Description
1st Grade
This elementary course is designed to not only point to our Creator in all things, but to show the student how creation and mathematics are intertwined. Also unique are the strong connections made between mathematical and scientific studies. Students are not asked to learn and to do math in a void that doesn't make real-world connections. Rather, from the very first page, connections are taught so that students understand the value of building a strong foundation in the language of mathematics.
In first grade, students are introduced to addition, subtraction, and place value. They will learn about measurement and data, as well as geometry. Hands-on activities engage the student at the beginning of each lesson and projects close out each unit, requiring students to apply their new knowledge in a tangible way. In second grade, students advance to adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers, telling time, manipulating money, and learning more about measurement, data collection, and geometry, including 3D shapes. Again, hands-on activities are designed to complement each new lesson and keep math fun and engaging. Projects build on the student's knowledge at the close of each unit.
