For many years the Moravian Star has been a favorite decoration appropriate for the commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ, the first having been made in the Moravian settlement at Niesky, Germany, about 1850. Today, these stars shine in homes, schools, and churches in many parts of the world.
The Moravian Star is a reminder of the star that led the Wise Men from their home in the distant east to Bethlehem, where they presented gifts to the newborn King. It also symbolizes the Christ Child, Himself, of whom the Old Testament prophesied, "A star shall come out of Jacob" (Numbers 24:17)
The Risen Christ, likewise, proclaimed Himself as "The Root and Offspring of David, and the Bright and Morning Star" (Revelation 22:16)
Although traditionally displayed during December, it can be displayed in or outside of your home year-round, as a reminder of God's greatest gift to us, and as an evangelistic conversation-starter.
